HUDSON, Ohio — Hudson City Council members can now carry concealed weapons at meetings, a change in policy that has some residents concerned.
The council approved the policy, 4-3, during a meeting in August . Council member Chris Banweg said during the meeting the policy change is a necessary deterrent to people who might consider opening fire during a meeting.
Council member Mike Bird opposed the policy, saying he believes it creates a less-safe environment.
“We do not need to do this,” Bird said. “I don’t think most parents who are bringing their children to city council meetings want guns here. I think like schools, hospitals, libraries, I think they want some places to be free of guns. And I also don’t think it makes us safer.”
