An 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life and a young boy is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Melbourne overnight.

A silver Toyota Corolla and a grey Nissan Skyline collided on High Street Road in Wantirna South, at the intersection of Wallace Road, at about 8.20pm.

An 11-year-old girl in the Corolla was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A four-year-old boy in the Corolla was also taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Corolla driver, a 38-year-old Knoxfield woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Another passenger in the car, a 38-year-old Knoxfield man, was uninjured.
