A child is in a critical condition and another has serious injuries following a shocking crash on a Melbourne road.

On Thursday abut 8.20pm, a Toyota Corolla and Nissan Skyline collided at an intersection on High Street Rd in Wantirna South.

An 11-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Corolla has life-threatening injuries.

A four-year-old boy in the same car was also rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The 38-year-old female driver has minor injuries and the fourth passenger, a 38-year-old man, was not injured.

The two males in the Nissan sustained minor injuries as well and did not need to be taken to hospital.
