A service technician was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Route 80 while responding to a stopped vehicle in Warren County, authorities said.

Ethan Schultz, 20, of Bangor, Pennsylvania, died when he was struck on the westbound side of the highway at 6:37 a.m. Oct. 23, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

Based on the investigation, Schultz parked his vehicle on the shoulder in front of a disabled tractor-trailer at mile marker 14 in Frelinghuysen, Lebron said. As he approached the driver's side of the truck, he was struck by an unknown white commercial vehicle.

The vehicle also struck the driver's side door of the tractor-trailer, Lebron said. The driver left the scene prior to officers arriving.

The crash remains under investigation.
