Local officials gave voters a few new insights Wednesday about the proposed floating local option sales tax, or FLOST, during a presentation to the Newnan Rotary Club.

Mayor Keith Brady, Coweta County Administrator Michael Fouts and Newnan City Manager Cleatus Phillips again said they were not advocating for or against the measure, only explaining how it works ahead of the Nov. 4 election.

Phillips said that if voters approve FLOST, it would last for five years and then expire. Renewing it would take more than just local approval.

“This is a two-part process,” Phillips said. “The local delegation would have to introduce legislation in the General Assembly, and then the county and cities would still need to sign an intergovernmental agreement before it could go back to voters.”
