PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was arrested Thursday morning by the FBI in connection with a gambling-related investigation.
Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, who was also arrested as part of the FBI probe, are being placed on leave from their respective teams, the NBA confirmed in a statement.
According to the indictment, the Blazers coach is accused of taking part in rigged poker games staged in Las Vegas that were run by high-profile New York mafia families. Other games were also run in Manhattan, Miami and the Hamptons, the FBI said during a press conference Thursday morning, though Billups' name was not attached to those games in court documents.
