An Edmonton Remand Centre inmate has pleaded guilty to killing a sex offender with whom he shared a cell — admitting he told a mental health helpline he was upset after reading a newspaper report about a high-profile child sex abuse case.

Clayton Berard, 44, pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday partway through his first-degree murder trial for the June 29, 2019, killing of Bruce Donald Windsor. He admitted to repeatedly striking the 57-year-old after an argument, then strangling him with a bedsheet.
