Police in Norfolk County say human remains found in a wooded area off Highway 6 near Caledonia last week have been identified as Robert Sykes of Simcoe.

An autopsy determined Sykes, 49, was the victim of a homicide, police say. The exact cause of death was not released.

Sykes had been missing since Oct. 4 — the day before Barbara Morgan , 71, was found dead in the house the two shared in Simcoe.

Morgan’s son, 45-year-old Justin Morgan, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.

Early on in the investigation of Morgan’s death, police asked the public to be on the lookout for Sykes, with investigators concerned he could be a second victim .

His remains were found on Oct. 16 in a densely wooded area off Highway 6, west of Caledonia.
