When Jim Irwin first toured the Neuhoff site in 2017, the buildings had been vacant for more than 20 years. Some of them lacked roofs, and trees were growing through the floors.

“For me, it felt like visiting Rome,” Irwin tells the Post. “It was just this beautiful preserved ruin. Where others would probably see a creepy abandoned meatpacking facility, I just saw enormous potential to create a really dynamic center for the Germantown community.”

Irwin, the president of Atlanta-based New City Properties, bought the site in 2020. Five years later, it’s a bustling hub of office, retail and residential space, with more to come.
