NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A criminal database run by the New York City Police Department is under fire after a report by the Department of Investigation determined that the database "continues to perpetuate racial profiling."
According to the DOI, in December 2022, over 16,000 individuals in the database were identified as Black or Hispanic.
While that number has declined to 8,563 by October 2025, officials say the individuals in the database continue to be predominantly Black and Hispanic men between the ages of 18 and 34.
The report caught the attention of the Legal Aid Society, which sent out a statement that reads in part: "The data makes clear that Black and Brown New Yorkers continue to be disproportionately surveilled and cataloged... True public safety cannot be built on discriminator
