NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- Streetlights across New Iberia are undergoing repairs as part of a city initiative to enhance public safety.

The project, funded by the city's public safety budget, has allocated over $100,000 for new lighting and repairs to ensure that every neighborhood is well-lit.

"Our citizens will feel safe with brighter areas to do their family business, to shop in or at their residence," said Mayor Pro Tem Ricky Gonsoulin.

The city has recently signed a new franchise agreement with Cleco, the utility company responsible for maintaining over 4,000 streetlights in New Iberia. This agreement mandates Cleco to patrol for outages three times a year and repair damaged lights.
