From the onset of training camp, the Winnipeg Jets wanted to focus on improving their penalty-kill.
And early this season, the Jets have managed to stymie the opposition power plays in 26 of 27 opportunities, which equates to a league-best 96.3 per cent efficiency rate. Last year, they ranked 13th in the NHL at 79.4 per cent.
The reason for the improvement, however, has a negative side to it, as head coach Scott Arniel explains.
“(We are taking) too many penalties,” he said prior to Thursday night’s game against the Seattle Kraken. “We’ve had way too many opportunities to practise (the penalty kill).”
