Alaska Airlines grounded flights nationwide Thursday afternoon due to IT issues caused by a failure at the company's primary data center. This impacted several key systems that allow the company to operate, according to Tim Thompson, public affairs manager for Alaska Airlines.
The outage caused delays and flight cancellations to Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights; Hawaiian Air flights are not affected.
The IT issues began around 2:30 p.m. and is not a cybersecurity event or related to any other events, Thompson said.
“We apologize for the inconvenience. If you're scheduled to fly tonight, please check your flight status before heading to the airport,” the company wrote in a statement posted to social media at 3:21 p.m.
