The Mahoning County Drug Court has been given the greenlight to operate another two years, by the Ohio Supreme Court.
Judge John Durkin, who spearheaded the project over two decades ago, spoke at a Mahoning County commissioners meeting Thursday. Judge Durkin cited the significant impact he says the drug court has had on people throughout the county.
Mahoning County Drug Court started in 1997 as way to keep people out of jail and get the help they need to kick addictions.
He says over 1,600 people have successfully gone through the court, and he plans to keep it running.
"It's the best part of my job. It's the one thing that I've been doing for 28 years that, as frustrating as it can be, it's also that much more rewarding, when we can see people get their lives back," Judge Durkin said
