MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The cost of your morning fix of caffeine is surging. With tariffs and inflation, the price of a pound of coffee is up more than $2.50 over this time last year. As families work to make ends meet, local coffee shops say they’re feeling the pinch.
Grinding beans and pulling espresso shots is the norm at Nova Espresso in Mobile, but the cost to make your favorite drink has gone up due to tariffs.
“Starting in February this year, we saw our green coffee prices start to increase by about 30%,” said Nova Espresso owner Tim Gautreaux.
Gautreaux said despite the increase, Nova has never raised its prices.
“We wanna keep it consistent,” said Gautreaux.
However, he said that the decision is starting to hurt their bottom line as fewer customers come in.
