A man was arrested after allegedly confronting a Fairfield High School student with “vulgar, race-based language” before assaulting her, the Fairfield Police Department said Thursday.

The Fairfield High School staff were alerted on Wednesday morning that a female student had been assaulted by a man while walking to school, according to authorities. Police said the student was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

During the investigation, officers learned the student was walking near the 300 block of Dahlia Street when she was approached by a man, identified as 37-year-old Victor Viera Chavez, officials report.
