CAMBRIDGE, Mass. —
Harvard University students and staff were told to shelter in place after a reported shooting in Cambridge on Friday.
The initial warning was posted to the university's emergency alert website : "Cambridge Police are reporting that an unidentified male on a bicycle just shot at another person on Sherman Street. The suspect is on a bicycle heading toward Garden Street. Please avoid the area and shelter in place."
Garden Street leads south past Cambridge Common and meets Massachusetts Ave. near the Harvard campus.
Later, the university said the shooting occurred near the Radcliffe Quad.
City and university police are searching for the suspect and said he could be headed toward Harvard Square. Members of the university community were specifically told to stay inside
