SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man from Holyoke faces over a dozen charges, including assault on a police officer after crashing a stolen ATV in Springfield.
In a news release by the Springfield Police Department, on Thursday at around 7:10 p.m., officers were patrolling the area of State Street and Thompson Street when they observed a man operating an ATV, who hit the back of a vehicle in traffic. The ATV became lodged under the car and the operator attempted to dislodge it and ride away.
As officers approached, police say that the operator began fighting with officers, grabbed an officer's baton, and ripped off their utility belt in an attempt to disarm the officer. The officer used their stun gun while assisting officers took him into custody.
