SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A medical helicopter was called to a crash on Interstate 81 South in Sullivan County Friday morning.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the crash was reported shortly after 11 a.m. at mile marker 55.
TDOT's SmartWay Traffic Map described the crash as a single-vehicle crash.
As of 11:45 a.m., I-81's southbound lanes were closed in the area of the crash.
TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi posted on social media, saying a medical helicopter was landing in the area shortly after 11:30 a.m.
The Kingsport Fire Department also posted to social media, stating it was on the scene of the crash. The fire department posted a photo of the helicopter and several other emergency vehicles at the crash.
