NEWPORT, Ky. —

A man is facing charges, accused of stabbing a woman and then jumping off the Purple People Bridge when encountered by police.

It all started around 6:30 a.m. when Mariemont Police officers were called to the 3800 block of Homewood Road for a report of a stabbing. Advertisement

Police say they found a 41-year-old woman who was stabbed multiple times. Her injuries were non-life-threatening, police said.

The suspect, a 39-year-old man, fled the scene before officers arrived.

Shortly after the incident, the suspect was found by Newport Police on the Purple People Bridge. During the encounter, the suspect jumped into the Ohio River.

He was rescued by emergency response teams, and taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
