Bats in two Jefferson County zip codes recently tested positive for rabies, according to Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness.
In these instances, there was no contact between bats and any humans in the impacted zip codes of 40059 in Prospect and 40217, which covers the Bradley, Merriwether and Audubon neighborhoods, LMPHW officials said. A dog was exposed to a bat, but the dog was up to date on its rabies vaccinations. Data from the Public Health and Wellness Lab indicates that at least 19 bats have tested positive for rabies in Jefferson County since 2019.
