A 39-year-old man is facing more than an handful of charges after a robbery and repeated assaults at a Cambridge grocery store.

Waterloo Regional Police said on Thursday, at about 11:05 a.m., a man had stolen merchandise from a grocery store on Dundas Street North and Main Street, and assaulted an employee who attempted to stop the man on the way out.

The man returned a short time later and assaulted another employee at the entrance of the store before fleeing the area.

Officers found the man nearby and arrested him. Officers said the man became combative during the arrest and assaulted them as well.

The man, from Cambridge, was charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, two counts of assault peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, and mischief under $5,000.
