ATLANTA — Zone 5 officers with the Atlanta Police Department apprehended a man with 36 past arrests for allegedly shooting at a homeless encampment.

According to police, on Oct.10 at around 4 a.m., they responded to a call of shots fired near Forsyth Street and Peachtree Street.

While searching the scene for suspects or victims, officers spotted a suspicious white SUV fleeing the area, but eventually lost sight of it as it accelerated.

Witnesses say they saw a male driver shooting out the window toward a homeless encampment. Officers later found the vehicle abandoned with multiple shell casings inside near 612 Lee Street SW, with the passenger window shot out, and keys left in the ignition.

They also found the suspected firearm in a bush nearby.
