HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. — Hamblen County Sheriff's Office said the deaths of two people in East Hamblen County Thursday night were likely the result of a murder-suicide.
Deputies responded to the home at 9:45 p.m. in reference to an open 911 call. Deputies were unable to make contact with anyone at the front door and went around to the back of the residence.
The sheriff's office said deputies saw a man on the floor of the family room with a handgun nearby. Deputies entered the home to check for injuries and located a woman on the couch. Both were unresponsive and appeared to have been shot, deputies said.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division were called to conduct the investigation.
The sheriff's office said it is withholding their identities pending family notification.
