MOUNT CLEMENS, MI – A Warren police officer is accused of taking hundreds of dollars from a department charity program geared toward kids interested in law enforcement that he helped oversee.
Jack Barnes, 29, was charged with embezzlement on Friday, Oct. 24, in Macomb County District Court.
Authorities did not say how much funds were impacted. However, the charge is a five-year felony that covers $200 or more and less than $1,000 from a nonprofit or charitable organization.
Barnes is alleged to have misappropriated funds from Warren’s Police Explorer Program, for which he was an associate post advisor. According to a news release from Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido’s office, a senior command officer in the city’s police department first reported a financial discrepancy in July af
