CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A report from the Linn County Attorney said the officer-involved shooting involving a stolen handgun and police chase was justified.
On August 5, Cedar Rapids police used deadly force against 22-year-old Aaron Rich following a reported firearm theft, a police chase, and the suspect pointing a gun at officers .
Police say Rich stole a handgun from Theisen’s in Southwest Cedar Rapids and then ran from the store. Officers spotted him getting into the passenger side of a GMC Acadia with a 4-year-old child inside and then tried to stop the vehicle at a gas station on 16th Ave SW. That’s when police say Rich jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off.
