ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) -- The Isle of Palms Police Department is the first municipality in South Carolina to pilot a new artificial intelligence program that they believe will help law enforcement save time and save lives.

The program, called Abel Writer, uses AI to transcribe and draft police reports from an officer's body camera footage.

In a live demonstration on Friday, officers showed how the program transcribes conversations and adds descriptive details such as clothing colors and movements to the narrative.

The program is specifically designed for law enforcement and approved by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It has been certified by the criminal justice information system to maintain personal information securely, according to the founder, Daniel Francis.
