MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A Mount Pleasant rector who serves as archbishop for the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA), a conservative sect that broke away from the Episcopal Church in 2009, sent a letter to church members Friday responding to allegations of misconduct against him.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday, Oct. 23, that Archbishop Steve Wood, 62, had been accused of sexual misconduct and abuse of power by former children's ministry director Claire Buxton at St. Andrew's Anglican Church.

Buxton told the Post that Wood had initiated an "intimate" hug and tried to forcibly kiss her in April 2024.

The alleged incident occurred just two months before he was appointed archbishop of ACNA on June 22, 2024.
