LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Advocates for change attended Louisville’s third annual Violence Prevention Summit on Friday.
Inside the Goodwill Opportunity Center, which is meant to be a beacon of hope, they convened to help lift one of the city's heaviest burdens.
The gathering each year consists of strategizing, partnerships, resources and understanding the landscape of Louisville’s violence.
But this year, the focus is on equipping residents with practical and actionable tools to help make their neighborhoods safer.
Attendees like Alkeshia Blackmon were in the room to do their part to curb youth violence.
Data shows those under 18 make up 15% of victims and 17% of those perpetrating the city’s violent crime.
