GRAND FORKS — We all catch ourselves saying it: Where does time go? And, sometimes we don't realize it, until it's too late.

But two women, who grew up together in northwestern Minnesota, have remained best friends since that first day of school more than eight decades ago.

They were in each other's wedding, 1950s brides. Best friends for more than 80 years.

"How are you, how are you?" Elaine Baker asked her longtime friend Nadine Paulson on Friday afternoon, Oct. 24, in Grand Forks.

"You look so nice," Nadine said to Elaine.

"You look pretty sporty too, kid," Elaine said back.

Time has marched on.

"So, how have you been?" Elaine asked Nadine.

Circumstances change.

"Kind of crappy," Nadine said, honestly.

But Elaine Baker and Nadine Paulson are still connected at the hip.
