MOSCOW, Idaho — Colleges and universities across Idaho are bracing for permanent budget cuts, and the University of Idaho reports it will have to cut jobs to meet state mandates.

Idaho Governor Brad Little is calling for three percent cuts to spending across the state to make up for a projected budget deficit of nearly $57 million. More than $13 million in cuts will come from Idaho’s state-run colleges and universities.

That includes the University of Idaho, which will have to cut $3.4 million from its budget. U of I says to meet the reduction, it will have to eliminate 28 essential positions among faculty and staff.
