Should you visit a national park during the government shutdown? It's actually a rather complicated question, one I found myself in the middle of during a recent visit to Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah . A trip that had been in the works for more than six months, cancellation wasn't an option, even if the government couldn't get a budget together.
Before leaving, I confirmed that Utah's national parks were open during the national park shutdown , with the state setting aside $5 million to support the parks in the event of a government shutdown. While that doesn't mean every national park site is working at full capacity, Bryce Canyon National Park is getting a bigger piece of the pie, thanks to its position as the second most-visited national park in the state.
