KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A $300 million housing project broke ground on Friday afternoon on Kansas City’s east side.
Parade Park Homes was one of the first black cooperative housing developments in America; now, it’s getting a makeover.
“You talk about changing the face of the east side? This is the sort of work we're doing,” said Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.
“We worked, we fought, we clawed, we worked with the government, with everybody we could, to make sure that people were respected and have the dignity they deserve in this development.”
The project will bring close to 1100 units to the 18th and Vine district and will include senior and family housing. The developers say that it’ll be a project they’ll never forget.
“There's nothing more important than this,” said David Flaherty, C
