A tiny Dartmoor village with a much-loved pub at its heart is a beautiful escape from nearby Plymouth - and you can even get there by bus. The parish is mostly unchanged by time with an ancient oak tree thought to be over 800 years old, along with a prominent historical cross standing on the village green.

When I visited this charming village, I took the bus from Plymouth city centre to Yelverton and then hopped on to the 56 bus from there to Meavy - and it took less than 15 minutes. The locals I spoke to when I was there for the day spoke about the importance of this bus route saying ‘use it or lose it’, it’s an imperative lifeline for the village, linking residents to other local areas .
