For the second consecutive year, the WPIAL will have the unenviable task of choosing between Clairton and Fort Cherry as the No. 1 seed in the Class 1A football tournament.

It’s not an easy choice, to be sure.

On one hand, there is undefeated Fort Cherry, the two-time reigning champion led by all-everything senior Matt Sieg. The other, a Bears squad whose only loss was to an undefeated Class 3A Imani Christian team.

Then there is Class 4A. Aliquippa has qualified for the playoffs a record 48 times, but did the Quips do enough to earn No. 49 without quarterback and Yale recruit Marques Council, who is done for the year, to earn the nod over Chartiers Valley?
