IOLA, Texas (KBTX) - Iola (4-3, 3-1) defeated Burton (7-1, 4-1) in miraculous fashion on Senior Night. The Bulldogs handed the third-ranked Panthers their first loss of the season, 37-36, thanks to a game-winning field goal on the final play.
Why did Iola win? The Bulldogs drove down the field, trailing by 2 with 1:04 on the clock. Burton appeared to secure the victory after the final play of regulation resulted in an incomplete pass. However, a pass interference call against the Panthers extended the game by one more play. With the ball at the seven-yard line, Iola elected to line up for a 24-yard field goal on the final untimed down.
