Things getting antsy
I’ve read numerous reports and articles regarding the teachers strike. The Canadian Taxpayer Federation has provided facts on the potential costs to taxpayers and the burden on Alberta’s fiscal situation. Public comments on the strike are getting more incensed. My fear is that negative feelings towards teachers are becoming almost visceral. Support is shifting. At first, teachers had legitimate concerns. However, the lack of suggestions from the ATA has left many dismayed. We are left to believe this strike is solely political. At the recent rally, there were about 2,000 teachers and a similar number of supporters. Two thousand out of 51,000 is hardly resounding support. It’s less than 4%. This strike also strains public trust. It’s so easily lost and hard to regain
