A lab technician at the Health Sciences says moving the lab technician training program to Grand Falls-Windsor has had a huge impact on overtime worked in her department.
Ashley Carew says when she graduated from her program eight years ago, 27 people were hired.
Last year, there was only one.
“We used to have a lab assistant training program that was in St. John’s and they moved it out to Grand Falls-Windsor, which has really had a big impact on us recruiting staff elsewhere in our province,” she says.
“With the only program being in Grand Falls-Windsor, it’s very hard for us to recruit the staff to go out there for the program and then to come back in within St. John’s to work. So I’ve seen the big change from when I got hired and with all of our retirements and we’re really struggli
