CENTRAL VALLEY – Monroe-Woodbury and Washingtonville had both secured playoff spots before their non-league matchup on Friday, but the Crusaders gave their homecoming weekend an extra reason to celebrate.
Dominating from start to finish, Monroe-Woodbury took a 45-0 lead into halftime — powered by six first-half sacks — and went on to set a new school scoring record with a commanding 73-0 victory, showcasing unstoppable strength on both sides of the ball. Washingtonville (6-2) played its second team in preparation for this week’ Section 9 Class A playoffs.
“Our goal was to get better and go 1-0 every week, and that’s what we did,” said James Sciarra, Monroe-Woodbury’s coach. “My kids played tough from the start. We fought hard, and we had some kids step in and make some plays.”
