A man suffered serious injuries during “an interaction” with police in Blind River, the Special Investigations Unit says.

The 54-year-old male was arrested following a dispute and taken to the Ontario Provincial Police detachment in the community on Oct. 19. He was held in custody for a bail hearing the next day, said SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette in an email.

There was an altercation between the man and police when he was returned to his cell following the bail hearing on Oct. 20. He was brought to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released back into police custody.

SIU reviews incidents involving police and a death, serious injury, the discharge of a weapon or sexual assault.
