After two straight years as the only champion the Henderson Metal Fall Classic has ever known, Matt Dunstone’s bid for a three-peat came to a halt on Saturday night by way of a 7-5 quarterfinal upset loss to Evan Van Amsterdam of Edmonton, Alta.
Team Dunstone, featuring Saultites E.J. and Ryan Harnden, entered the playoff round as one of the tournament favourites.
Trailing 3-2 in the fourth end, Van Amsterdam delivered a precision triple takeout — knocking out three of Dunstone’s stones — to pull even at 3-3 heading into the fifth.
