AUSTIN, Texas — A suspect is in custody after a shooting at the Austin Central Library downtown on Saturday afternoon that left one person injured.

The Austin Police Department said around 12:06 p.m., it received several 911 calls reporting a shooting inside the library.

Officers responded to the scene and worked to clear the building. One victim who had been shot was taken to a local hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

According to APD, the suspect fled the library before officers arrived. He was later arrested around 1:30 p.m. in South Austin.

Police said this was an isolated incident between two individuals and "not an active shooter situation."

The incident prompted a large response from first responders due to its location in a public library.
