SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — While Springfield Police Department (SPD) officers were attempting to contact a person with a warrant at a gas station on West Chestnut Street on Saturday, Oct. 25, the incident took a turn as an aggressive dog approached an officer.
Lt. Jason Copley told Ozarks First the incident happened at Fast 'N Friendly on 501 W. Chestnut.
"An officer was attempting to contact a subject with a warrant," Lt. Copley said. "When he was conducting that investigation, an aggressive dog approached him. To counter that dog, he fired two shots that struck the dog."
The officer was not injured, he confirmed.
Lt. Copley noted the dog was still alive when being secured and contained by animal control.
The person who the SPD was investigating was arrested on the warrant and for resisting
