Before the first drop of sweat poured from a player’s pores at summer camp prior to the 2025 regular season, a debate raged in WPIAL football.

It seemed to be a simple question, yet it polarized most everyone.

“When the WPIAL seeding committee meets on Oct. 25, will Fort Cherry or Clairton get the No. 1 seed in Class 1A?”

Well, the regular season has ended, the committee put its collective heads together and we have an answer.

Fort Cherry.

“Fort Cherry is the reigning champion. They are undefeated,” Norwin athletic director and WPIAL football steering committee co-chairman Mike Burrell said. “You seek common opponents, you look at all those kinds of criteria, but we felt that Fort Cherry being the defending champion and still undefeated had some weight to it.”
