AURORA — One out of three isn’t bad — at least if you are the “one”.
Saturday at the Aurora Sports Park, the “one” is exactly what the University softball team was.
The Bulldogs were the No. 1 team in the Class 3A state tournament when the dust settled.
They were also the only one out of three local state tournament finalists to walk away with the gold.
In yet another classic between a pair of longtime rivals, top-seeded University won in walk-off fashion against No. 2 Eaton, 5-4, in the 3A championship game.
In the other title game involving a local program, top-seeded Windsor struggled midgame to fall 7-4 to third-seeded longtime powerhouse Holy Family in the 4A final.
For the Bulldogs (27-2), this was University’s second state softball title in program history. The first came in 2
