The Wood River Wolverines boys soccer team won the Idaho Class 5A state boys soccer championship 5-0 over the Vallivue Falcons on Saturday at Columbia High School in Nampa.
It is the Wolverines' second title in three years after winning the 4A state championship over Sandpoint in 2023. Wood River lost to Vallivue in the 2024 5A state championship.
After 34 minutes of scoreless action, Wood River senior Mateo de la Torre opened the scoring as he headed in a corner from senior J.J. Wallace in the 35th minute. Wood River kept that 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Senior Alberto Romo doubled Wood River's lead in the 45th minute as he scored off a rebound from junior Hayden Gvozdas' shot.
