ELLSWORTH, Maine — Fall is winding down, and colder temperatures are quickly moving in. In Ellsworth, two local organizations are making sure people without housing have the gear they need to stay warm.

Tony Vietti was one of many who picked through the donations on Saturday.

“Maine winters are as brutal as ever, and this is a blessing. This is truly a blessing,” Vietti said. “Come on somebody, oh sweatpants! Now we’re talking!” he said, excited to find some warm layers.

This week, House Church, with support from Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Recovery Center , handed out hundreds of jackets, sweaters, boots, socks, and other winter essentials to members of the unhoused community.
