Residents have reacted in shock after capital officers locked down Stenhouse Cross.

Locals of Stenhouse Drive reported seeing Police Scotland and paramedics descend on the scene with tape erected at the roundabout.

Blue lights are visible in a grainy image of the Cross shared with Edinburgh Live.

The incident is understood to have taken place at around 9.30pm on Saturday October 25.

The exact nature of the incident is not known at this time.

"I live on Stenhouse Drive and the police have taped off roads including side streets," one concerned eyewitness said.

"Apparently it is due to a serious assault.

"It is rather frightening not knowing what is going on.

"We need know we are safe."

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
