When Elizabeth R. Guzmán first sought a seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates eight years ago, her upstart candidacy was animated by one person: President Donald Trump.
Motivated to run in protest of the then-new president, Guzmán and a “blue wave” of fellow Democratic challengers flipped a whopping 15 seats in the statehouse, including the one she represented in the booming, diversifying D.C. exurb of Prince William County.
