The Marine Corps Marathon turned 50 as more than 35,000 runners from around the world lined up at the starting gate and raced through the streets of D.C. and Arlington on Sunday.
Participation in this year’s race set a record, according to organizers, and included seasoned marathoners and first-timers alike.
Two Virginians took first place in the men’s and women’s race, respectively: Kyle King, who finished with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes; and Tessa Barrett, who set a course record with a time of 2 hours and 34 minutes. King and Barrett are both repeat winners: King won the race in 2022 and 2024, and Barrett also finished first last year.
The race, which is known as the “People’s Marathon,” does not award prize money.
